Pictorial maps and maps with drawings

Abstract

Cartography can be traced back to drawings of an area. Pictorial maps and map drawing do not lose their artistic appeal despite the standards of the present day cartography. The article analyses images and reflections of historic epochs and events in maps. It presents examples of printed maps by famous West European cartographers and publishers covering the period from the antiquity to MiddleAges, to Renaissance and more recent times. Most of the presented printed maps include the territory of Lithuania or represent works by Lithuanian authors. The authors describe the map of Central Europe (Sarmatia Europae) made by C. Ptolomey, Ebstorf mappa mundi for territory of Baltic (1235), portolano prepared by A. Kreskv (1375), map with picture of Lowlander in hunting made by Moseman (XVI c.); map of Lithuania prepared by O. Magnus (1539); map of Europe made by G. Mercator (1670); map of Netherlands of Spain made by P. Keere (1559); map-picture of J. Plenter (1636); pictorial map of Lithuania made by K. Urbas and Chistov (1931); picture of J. E. Nilson with map of J. Kanter (1770); non-traditional pictorial map of world made by H.W. van Loon, pictorial map of Lithuania made by Lithuanian author V. Petravičius in USA (1949), etc.

Pieštiniai žemelapiai ir žemelapiai su piešiniais

Santrauka. Kartografijos ištakos siejamos su vietovės piešiniais. Pieštiniai žemėlapiai ir žemėlapiai su piešiniais, nepaisant nūdienos kartografijos standartinių nuostatų, nepraranda meninio patrauklumo ir yra kuriami iki šiol. Straipsnyje nagrinėjami istorinės praeities epochų atspindžiai žemėlapiuose. Pateikiami išgarsėję Vakarų Europos kartografų ir leidėjų antikos, viduramžių, Renesanso ir naujųjų laikų spaudinių pavyzdžiai. Dauguma teikiamų spaudinių sietini su Lietuvos teritorija. Reprezentuojami lietuvių autorių darbai. Autorių nuomone, aptarti kartografijos meistrų spaudinius ar net atlikti jų istorinę analizę Lietuvos kartografinio vaizdo pažintiniu aspektu neabejotinai svarbu.
